He began volunteering on political campaigns while still in high school and continued to be politically active through college and university. In 1996, Dave put his own name on the ballot, running for the British Columbia Legislature in North Vancouver-Seymour as a candidate for the Progressive Democratic Alliance.
Following that election, he served as the party’s Policy Director and represented the PDA on Elections BC’s Election Advisory Committee. Those experiences gave him an early appreciation for the work behind public policy, the importance of accountable government, and the role citizens can play in shaping their communities.
Dave earned a degree from Simon Fraser University in Human and Economic Geography and Business Administration. His studies included the forces that shape cities and regions, including how people live, where housing and employment develop, how transportation connects communities, and how public decisions influence growth.
Professionally, Dave has spent more than three decades working in British Columbia’s film and television industry. Today he works as a Digital Imaging Technician, a highly technical role that requires planning, coordination, problem solving and making good decisions in complex, fast-moving environments.
Over the past two years, Dave has also spent considerable time speaking with residents and local business owners about their experiences in the City of North Vancouver. Those conversations, together with his own experiences dealing with the City, convinced him that there is an opportunity to make a practical difference.
Thirty years after first running for office, Dave is again putting his name forward, this time for Mayor of the City of North Vancouver.
He believes North Vancouver is an extraordinary place to live, but also a city facing some important choices about its future. Growth needs to be matched by transportation and infrastructure. New housing needs to include homes where families can actually stay and grow. And dealing with City Hall should be predictable, responsive and accountable.
Dave's campaign is built around a straightforward idea: a city that works for the people who live here.
That means focusing municipal government on practical results, improving how we get around, creating more opportunities for people to remain in the community throughout different stages of their lives, and making City services work better for residents and businesses.
Dave is running because he believes local government can be ambitious about the future while remaining grounded in the everyday needs of the people it serves.
